Update:

Equilibar’s first blood drive was a success, with our donors providing 22 units of blood. This is enough to help up to 66 patients. In the photos below, first time donor Chelsea Weldon gives a thumbs up while veteran donor Susan Kern takes it all in stride. In the bottom collage, Julie Detmering, who organized the drive, stands in front with her mother. Other photos include Engineering Manager Tony Tang, also a first time donor, as well as a few of Equilibar’s friends and neighbors who came out to help. Thanks to all of our amazing donors!

Equilibar will sponsor a blood drive Wednesday May 23 from noon to 5 pm at Equilibar Headquarters, 320 Rutledge Road, Fletcher NC 28732. Donors will receive a $20 gift card to Walmart plus good will and gratitude from the many people who will benefit from their gift of life.

Julie Detmering, Customer Service Manager, organized the blood drive in partnership with The Blood Connection. “When I had my son, Landon, I had to have emergency surgery because I would not stop bleeding,” Julie said. “Three hours later, they finally got it stopped but I lost so much blood that I was in the ICU receiving 2 units of blood.

“I’ve always given blood. I feel it is the very least we can do to give to others but since it saved my life, it is even more important to me.”

According to the Blood Connection, more than 4.5 million lives are saved each year thanks to blood donations. One pint of blood can help save up to three lives. As a non-profit community blood center, the Blood Connection meets the needs of local hospitals and patients first and serves to make sure that the local blood supply is always managed effectively. When possible, the organization sends blood to other areas of need as well.

Recipients of blood donations include surgery patients such as Julie, trauma victims, children with sickle cell anemia, people dealing with blood disorders, and many, many more.

A large number of Equilibar team members, vendor partners, and friends have already signed up to donate blood. They are happy to make sure the flow of blood is moving freely throughout the Western North Carolina region! Please join them by helping us spread the word to our neighbors in Buncombe and Henderson Counties.

To make an appointment, email julie@equilibar.com . A photo ID or donor card is required. We hope to see you soon!
