Visiting petroleum industry clients in Houston and Austin

Our Trip to Austin, TX

  • UT-Austin Petroleum Engineering

In early April, I spent a week visiting petroleum industry clients in the Houston and Austin areas. While I knew this sector was growing due to booms in oil and gas exploration, I was amazed to see the amount of growth first hand.

One key growth area for Equilibar back pressure regulators is in petroleum upstream reservoir core analysis. These applications involve all manner of testing of rock samples to determine not only the oil and gas content in the ground, but the most effective ways to extract them. Learn more about Equilibar’s reservoir core analysis applications.

The other key petroleum application for Equilibar is that of catalyst research.

I enjoyed spending a day at the University of Texas at Austin working with the researchers and students pictured above. I spent time in both the Chemical Engineering and Petroleum and GeoSciences departments during the day and explored Austin’s vibrant cultural offerings in the evenings.

After three days in Houston and one day in Austin, I’m more convinced than ever that we have many more opportunities in these fields than I realized. I hope to make another trip in about three or four months to dig a little deeper.

Journal article focuses on oligonucleotide production using pressure control with built in dampener

Oligonucleotide drugs are made up of short sections of genetic sequences and are used to target disorders in the genetic code. The first drug of this type was used in 1998 during the AIDS epidemic.  Since then, the field has accelerated rapidly and today many oligonucleotide drugs are in clinical trials, promising improvements in treatment Read More
