The simple design of Equilibar® valves and regulators allows for almost infinite customization so that optimal materials of construction can be selected for each application. We’re excited to introduce a new conductive diaphragm that expands our offerings of ATEX compliant materials.

Background

Equipment that must comply with requirements for potentially explosive atmospheres must use conductive or static-dissipating components. This guidance is described in the European Union’s ATEX Directive, which deals with safety and conformity procedures that must be followed before products can enter the EU market. It is also good practice for any industrial process.

Equilibar’s direct-sealing diaphragm technology relies on a thin and supple diaphragm that is the only moving part. When choosing an ATEX-compliant diaphragm, metal options are often a good choice but aren’t suitable for all applications.

To expand the range of ATEX-compliant solutions, Equilibar engineers have developed the ZPGL diaphragm, a new conductive version of our existing PGL diaphragm that is both chemically compatible and extremely supple to provide excellent precision and responsiveness. Surface resistivity testing confirms that the ZPGL falls within the conductive to static-dissipative range as specified in the ATEX Directive.

Where is this needed?

Industries such as pharmaceutical manufacturing, chemical processing, battery production, and specialty gas handling often have hazardous environments with flammable vapors or fine powders. In these applications, maintaining system safety through proper grounding and static control is essential; every component, including the diaphragm, plays a role.

We’re proud to offer the ZPGL option for our customers requesting additional compliance while maintaining performance or chemical compatibility.

Check out our Diaphragm Selection Guide for more information about diaphragm options from Equilibar.

We invite you to contact our engineering team to learn more about our ZPGL diaphragm or any other conductive compliant valve configuration. They are also happy to discuss the best materials of construction to meet requirements of applications with extreme temperatures, high pressure, sanitary requirements, multiphase flow, and slurries or abrasives.
